Dear Editor,
Where is my brick!! Shortly before the old R H S was closed and the new Rockmart High School opened, the Rockmart Journal featured an application from the City of Rockmart for a "Walk of Memories" brick for all students who had attended the old high school. The bricks cost $30.00-$40.00 each (I don't recall the exact amount, but it was expensive for a brick!), and each brick could have a couple of names on it. I brought a brick for my brother and myself. It was placed on the "Walk of Memories on the walls running along each side of the wide steps on the Piedmont Avenue side of the campus, between what used to be the junior high building and the high school building. The wall is now gone! The steps are gone! The bricks are gone! The entire area has been graded for a road. A friend and I walked the entire campus looking for the bricks, and the bricks are not on the property that we could see. My friend called the city manager, and she was told that he would return her call, but no one has returned calls concerning the bricks. I want my brick!!!
The bricks were to remain on the property as a memorial to all the students who walked the campus for years and years.Undoubtedly, the city did not respect us enough to allow the "Walk of Memories" to remain on what is now the ever-increasing- tax payer dollar--expense called the city complex. What is so disturbing about the lost of the bricks is the fact that some of the city officials whom she tried to contact walked the old Rockmart High School campus with us!! Maybe, they didn't buy a brick! Maybe, they didn't care about the brick they may have purchased, but I want my brick!!

Did anybody besides Patsy buy a brick? Let the city and the county know. Ask questions!
