More funds are needed for the $3.5 to $4 million renovation project at the old high school where Rockmart officials hope a new city complex will be completed within three years.
Plans are to renovate the old main building for administrative offices, council chambers and county service area.
The police department will be housed in the downstairs portion of the structure.
A senior center will be added near the gym, which is now being used for the city’s recreational activities.
The public works and code enforcement departments have been moved into the former shop building.
The planned library will be in the new location of the vocational technical building. A total of $1.8 million is needed to make this a reality and work continues to get funds from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). This will include the renovation, landscaping and possible paving costs.
