Watermelon Pie

Some of you might have relatives in this photo, made in Polk County a long, long time ago.

High school humor being what it was, a fellow could amuse his date in the late fifties by asking the person taking orders at a drive in restaurants if they had 'Barbecued Goat and Watermelon Pie.'

Imagine my surprise when I married a good ol' boy from South Georgia and learned that barbecued goat was actually on the menu in certain BBQ establishments. Goat is kind of stringy, but it's palatable. At goat barbecues, they usually barbecue a few chickens and some pork ribs for those who are not sophisticated enough to enjoy goat.

I still haven't eaten Watermelon Pie.
